NOC Meets with Simmons Cay Residents

 

 
Dr. Narendra Sharma, NOC Board Chair, Dana Gilbert, NOC Field Director, and Jeannette Narvaez, NOC Field Team Member met with Mitzy Cordoba, Simmons Cay Manager, and more than 30 residents, mainly women and children, to discuss NOC Programs.

Basic English Classes Begin in Bluffton

NOC launched the first Basic English class in Bluffton at Vista View Apartments on Wednesday, May 11. Dennis Adams, NOC Board Secretary and Emilio Anchorena, NOC Field Team Member, led the class in lively, bi-lingual conversation. Ten students, all young mothers, enjoyed learning new skills. 

 

Tutoring Helps Young Children

NOC has given high priority to children’s programs. Volunteers are assigned to one to three children to help them with reading, basic English, and basic math. Some members of NOC’s Board of   Directors are directly involved in this program. For example, NOC Board member Ellen Taylor tutors nine-year-old Cristian Hernandez every week.

 

Health Screening at Oaks

 

The two-day health screening at Oaks was highly successful. More than 80 individuals, mostly from Oaks and a few from various other neighborhoods, took advantage of this free screening.

Soccer Program at Oaks

 

Many residents of the Oaks assembled at the Oaks small soccer field to see the highly successful inaugural games of the soccer program for young girls and boys. Two teams of boys and girls were formed (named by team members, America and Pachuca).

NOC Participates in Kid's Fair

The Sandbox hosted its second annual Kid's Fair on May 1, 2010, an event that allowed children and families to interact and have fun. The Sandbox is a hands-on, interactive museum filled with unique entertaining and educational play areas
