
NOC Celebrates Opening of Bluffton Program Center

Neighborhood Outreach Connection (NOC) held a

highly successful open house at its new program center at Bluffton House on Saturday, August 28, 2010. More than 100 people participated in the four-hour event. NOC staff and volunteers interacted with residents, visiting their apartments and explaining NOC and its outreach programs.
Margarita Ruiz: a Caring Neighbor

Margarita Ruiz is a very busy woman. She hosts a radio show on the Hispanic Radio station, AM 1040. She teaches GED classes in English and Spanish. She runs a beauty salon and is raising a family. But the GED classes she leads are some of the most rewarding work she does.
"Soccer" ! A Community Builder
On August 14, 2010, Hilton Head Lions played against Bluffton Tigers for the NOC Palmetto Cup. The teams consisted of boys and girls between the ages of 6 and 15. Hilton Head Lions won in a very competitive match filled with excitement and fun.
NOC Brings Schools into the Neighborhoods
NOC continues to expand its outreach in neighborhoods
by partnering with the Beaufort School District and schools in Hilton Head Island and Bluffton. For the first time, school officials have come into the neighborhood to collaborate with children and parents living in the neighborhood. In early August, 2010, Ms. Jill McAden, Principal, HHIB Elementary, and Sara Owens, Ass't Principal (HHIB/HHISCA), met with parents and students in the community center at Oaks Apartments in Hilton Head Island.

On July 8th, the Beaufort County Traveling Preschool Reading Bus
pulled into Sandalwood Apartments for a morning of fun and learning. Several parents brought their children, ranging from infants to seven-year olds, to read books and play with the educational toys.
Children Learn About Martial Arts
Participants in NOC’s Neighborhood Soccer League received a firsthand demonstration of martial arts by John Robert Griswold, an NOC volunteer. John Robert explained “martial arts" to children from Oaks Apartments and Hilton Head Gardens.
