
‘Reading Bus’ Comes to Sandalwood
On July 8th, the Beaufort County Traveling Preschool Reading Bus
pulled into Sandalwood Apartments for a morning of fun and learning. Several parents brought their children, ranging from infants to seven-year olds, to read books and play with the educational toys.
Children Learn About Martial Arts
Participants in NOC’s Neighborhood Soccer League received a firsthand demonstration of martial arts by John Robert Griswold, an NOC volunteer. John Robert explained “martial arts" to children from Oaks Apartments and Hilton Head Gardens.
New Directions: An Education Program for Women
NOC is partnering with the Healing Haven Institute, Inc. to launch a
pilot program in Sandalwood Terrace Apartments in Hilton Head Island. Through its education program, the Healing Haven Institute, Inc. provides “support for victims of domestic abuse; enabling them to stop the cycle of violence and to lead confident, successful and empowered lives.”
NOC Joins Other Organizations to Discuss Workforce Development in Beaufort County

NOC participated in the “WorkStarts Summit” sponsored by the Beaufort County Library on June 23, 2010, in Beaufort. The purpose of the Summit was to assess unemployment and underemployment in Beaufort County and its impact on the quality of life of people residing in the county. Presentations were made by representatives from the Lowcountry Council of Governments, the South Carolina Department of Employment and Workforce, the Lowcountry Economic Network, and the South Carolina State Library.
NOC Opens New Programs in Sandalwood Terrace
NOC is partnering with the Beaufort County School District and the 
Hilton Head Island IB Elementary School, an authorized IB School, to sponsor two education programs: The “Reading Bus” program for mothers and children up to 6-7 years and a “Virtual Summer Program” targeting rising fourth graders who need help in reading and math proficiency.
NOC Prepares for New Program Center at Bluffton House
