NOC Partners in Bike Safety Workshop
NOC partnered with Hilton Head Fire and Rescue to offer a bike safety workshop on April 11. Cinda Seamon, Public Education Officer for Hilton Head Fire and Rescue, along with Captain John Gill, Fire Fighter Guy Sticht, and Frank Babel from Squeaky Wheels, a bicycle advocacy group, offered bike safety tips, fitted bikes with safety reflectors, and donated bike helmets to the children who attended. The project was promoted at the Oaks, Sandalwood, and Hilton Head Gardens to increase awareness of the importance of bike safety. NOC communicated with Oaks residents through flyers, posters, and door-to door interaction. Flyers and posters were also made available in other neighborhoods.
The workshop took place outside the Oaks Community Center and covered information about the importance of wearing helmets, following the rules of the road, having reflectors and blinking lights for riding at night, and types of clothing to wear when riding at night.
Hilton Head Fire and Rescue also brought a fire engine to the event. Captain Gill and Fire Fighter Guy Sticht conducted fire engine tours and explained their jobs as first responders.
