NOC conducted an orientation program at Bluffton House in
early June, 2010, setting the stage to open a new program center.   A number of residents, staff from Bluffton House, representatives of partner agencies, and volunteers participated in the program. NOC staff explained various outreach programs relating to education, health care, workforce development, and social activities. Several partner agencies (including the Beaufort County Library, Girl Scouts, and Beaufort/Hampton/Jasper Comprehensive Health Services, Inc.) participated in the orientation program.   Participants were interested in courses for children (e.g., reading and tutoring) and adult education (e.g., basic computer, basic English, and GED). Several participants also expressed a need for health care support.   There was strong interest in programs directed to children and youth, especially the Girl Scout program and soccer for young people in the neighborhood. Several participants were also interested in various workshops offered by NOC that relate to workforce development, public safety, and microfinance.
