NOC And Technical College Of The Lowcountry (TCL) Form Partnership
NOC and the Technical College of the Lowcountry (TCL) partnered
to deliver a workshop on small business development at the Oaks Community Center on January 16, 2010.
The workshop was organized by Claudia Kennedy, NOC Vice Chair, and D’jaris Moore, Director of TCL’s Small Business Hub. Several residents of the Oaks community participated in the workshop to learn about TCL’s First Step FastTrac training program.
Special attention was given to taking business ideas from formulation of a feasibility plan to a profitable business. The participants were told that “Before investing much time in a new business, budding entrepreneurs should carefully evaluate their ideas.” In addition, participants learned that without careful evaluation and consideration, business ideas often fail. Key components of the process (e.g., products and services, marketing, pricing, etc.) to develop a feasibility plan were outlined and discussed.
By the end of the program, a number of participants showed interest in developing micro-businesses. Clearly, these participants are looking for economic opportunities to generate income and employment through entrepreneurship and small investment in the private sector. NOC will continue to give special attention to micro-finance for development of small enterprises.
