The children of Oaks, Hilton Head Gardens, Sandalwood, and Tabby Walk Apartments gathered at the Oaks Community Center with their parents and other visitors to participate in a Christmas Party that included fun, games, and gifts sponsored by NOC.This was the first event of this type for the children from these neighborhoods. A number of organizations pitched in to support this event, including the Home Owners Association of Oaks, Walgreens, and Second Helping, as well as many volunteers. More than 100 gifts (carefully wrapped by volunteer Jane Wexler) were presented by Santa Claus (aka Dennis Adams, Director of NOC Board). Each child had a photo taken with Santa, which turned out to be a highlight of the party. Children participated in games and enjoyed refreshments and drinks. Flor Mora, NOC’s aerobics teacher, led the children in dances to Christmas music. Many visitors commented on how well the community center was decorated, including a lighted Christmas tree. Decorations were done by a number for volunteers, Martha Cordoba and residents of the Oaks, under the leadership of Ellen Taylor (NOC Board of Directors).
